“Finding and identifying a property, arranging
financing, evaluating properties, marketing surveys
and completing the proper due diligence prior to purchasing a property are all issues that will be covered in
this seminar,” says Hirsh. “In today’s economy, there
are still plenty of people interested in buying and
owning a golf course, but finding financing and
pulling the whole deal together is quite challenging.
It is absolutely a buyer’s market, but you need to
know how to establish a relationship with a lending
institution to have any chance of securing financing.
“This seminar will provide a temperature reading
on the market and explain the mechanics of how to
get through the appraisal process and such. The
important thing for interested golf facility owners to
understand is that each property is different and
requires its own analysis and appraisal process.”
PGA Professional Doug Vilven of Salt Lake City,
Utah, a former member of the PGA Board of Directors representing District 9, will present a seminar
on “Budgets and Business Plans for All Types of
Operations” that also promises to help guide PGA
Professionals through the challenging process of
acquiring financing in these trying economic times.
“Virtually every golf facility owner or operator,
and every PGA Professional who is running his own
business, will have to borrow money at some time
during his or her career,” says Vilven, owner and
operator of Golf In The Round in Salt Lake City. “To
borrow money, you have to have a good business plan
and you have to understand how to prepare budgets.”
This seminar will provide those in attendance
with the tools and mechanics of preparing budgets
and business plans at all types of golf facilities.
“For people who ask why this might be relevant in
this economy, I like to tell the story about what I like
to do when I teach a seminar like this,” adds Vilven.
“I start the seminar by asking one person in the
audience if they will give me a buck. Someone
always will without saying much. Then, I ask the
next guy if he’ll give me 10 bucks. Once in a while,
